Arkansas Childrens Hospital

Owner: Arkansas Childrens Hospital

Architect: Cromwell Architects Engineers

VCC constructed a totally new facility and expanded another for one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States. The Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center (ACNC) added a new floor with four large laboratory spaces, as well as office and conference areas, and renovated other floors to accommodate new functions, and created a separate facility for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI). This renovation created highly specialized laboratory spaces, with such features as shielded, soundproof recording rooms for neurological research, airtight door closures, and special epoxy coatings on all surfaces. To complicate an already difficult project, all medical gases and ventilation systems were connected to the existing systems while in operation; because of ongoing research and procedures, it was impossible to shut down during construction. As well as interior remodeling, the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute was tied into the existing Research facility, and into the new floor of the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center. All this was completed in the overcrowded, tight quarters of a working hospital.

Conway Regional

Owner: Mediplex Medical Building Corporation

Architect: The Cromwell Firm

Conway Regional Medical Center was constructed as a complete, short-term care regional hospital—the essential feature of the Conway Regional Healthcare System. Construction of the 3 story Medical Center included 135 patient rooms, four completed operating rooms (with four more OR’s roughed in for later expansion), emergency entrance and general lobby, as well as doctors’ and administrative offices. It was completed in less than 14 months to serve a growing 5 county area in central Arkansas.

The site work included as much as 5 feet of undercut on a constricted site; VCC was required to work around existing structures, with overhead restrictions as well. Some special features included installation of a complete range of medical gases, a separate chilled water system for the surgery center, with separate roof top units for the upper floors, as well as coordination with low-voltage suppliers, installation of a steam generator, surgical lighting, medical gas columns, and call systems. VCC’s quality control program was instrumental not only in the quality of the end product, but played a crucial role in the coordination and installation of all the systems as construction progressed though out the project..

Arkansas Heart Hospital

Owner: Arkansas Heart Hospital

Architect: Terry Burruss Architects

Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, AR contracted VCC to renovate their Cardiac Catheterization labs. This renovation entailed revamping the existing 4 laboratories and adding 2 new laboratories. VCC completely remodeled 2,500 SF of existing lab space in many different phases, installing new Siemens cath equipment, which is known throughout the healthcare industry for outstanding image quality and low x-ray radiation dose to both the patient and staff. VCC renovated these labs while keeping the existing labs open during work hours. They were able to schedule most of the more disruptive work at night and on weekends so that this lab could continue to see patients. This remodel is just another example of how VCC is dedicated to meeting and exceeding all of its owner’s expectations and requirements for a project--whatever they may be.

St. Vincent Infirmary

Owner: St. Vincent/Doctor’s Hospital

Architect: Cromwell Architects Engineers

VCC was contracted by St. Vincent Infirmary to create a new Center for Women & Children —a fully equipped family style labor and delivery unit, complete with neonatal intensive care units (NICU)—by completely renovating the third and fourth floors of the busy fully operating hospital in central Little Rock, Arkansas. By careful scheduling the rest of the hospital experienced few disruptions from its everyday schedule. In addition to maintaining all systems while working, VCC provided both good housekeeping, and proper air quality during demolition by staging through windows for construction access. In weekly meetings with the hospital administrator, and department heads VCC made sure to guarantee the safety of both hospital workers and patients, and respected the unpredictable demands of the emergency room. We coordinated the seamless tie-in our new medical gas systems to existing systems, working around regular schedules—quickly canceling construction operations twice for emergency surgery—successfully completing the switch-over on the third time.
