Choppin Hall

VCC constructed the new Choppin Hall Annex, a five-story, state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory building designed for academic research at the Louisiana State University. The lab building represents a 63 percent increase of lab space for the Chemistry Department while at the same time allowing space for a materials science initiative and a consolidated clean room facility. Overall, there are 140 faculty workstations, electron microscope stations, clean rooms, micro and nanofabrication equipment, organic and polymer chemistry labs, seminar rooms, a conference room, administrative offices, student lab spaces, break rooms, a loading dock, elevators including a freight elevator and several smaller rooms with specialized equipment. The fifth floor of the building will remain a shell at the end of this project for a future construction phase. The project is designed and constructed with a variety environmentally-friendly construction techniques and materials.
