VCC Cares Gives Back!

As the holidays approach, there are more opportunities in our community to give back and last week we had the privilege of volunteering for two great causes! October is known for being “World Hunger Action Month” as well as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” While we all strive to help throughout the year, this month brought some great opportunities to volunteer our time and talents.

The Arkansas Foodbank was created in 1984 to serve several central Arkansas counties to serve hungry people, which they now cover the entire state. Arkansas ranks first in senior hunger according to the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger and third in child hunger according to Feeding America. Arkansas Foodbank is working to eradicate hunger. Last Thursday, our VCC family volunteered their time and made a donation to #helpfighthunger. We packaged food for distribution to agencies throughout Arkansas.   For more information on how you can help go to http://www.arkansasfoodbank.org/.

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there is so much that goes on in the community to help raise awareness and resources of this disease. On Saturday, 50 members of our VCC family walked in the 23rd Annual Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure in Little Rock. This race has special meaning for several members of our team that have family members either previously or currently battling breast cancer. Some of the men walked in the 3 Miles of Men in support of their loved ones. One had a family member, a breast cancer survivor, come down from Cape Cod, Massachusetts to walk with the VCC Cares team. The Little Rock Komen Race For The Cure is the second largest in the country. For more information or to donate go to http://komenarkansas.org/.
