Paradise Creek is a public-private partnership between Related California, Community Housing Works, and the City of National City. It received a Silver Catalyst Award for California’s Sustainable Strategies Pilot Program and was selected as one of five federal Sustainable Communities Partnership Pilots in the country by the EPA in partnership with HUD and the DOT. A few other awards Paradise Creek has received are: 2017 Momentum Award, Healthy Community, Circulate San Diego, 2017 Project Of The Year, New Construction, San Diego Housing Federation Ruby Awards, Leed – Neighborhood development & Leed for Homes Certification.
As this property was a city-owned brown field site, it was formerly used as a public works yard fro maintenance of city vehicles. Under the oversight of the CA Dept. of Toxic Substances Control, we were part of the site redevelopment of environmental remediation for hazardous materials. The development is located on a tidal creek and adjacent to a new light rail station. Innovative design and construction strategies were used to accommodate being on a flood plain.
